Short History
The term “chorale” dates from early 17th century Germany
and represents the finest in choral ensemble singing. The rich
tradition of women’s chorale singing at Penn State began in 1943
with the formation of “The Women’s Chorale.” Now,
over sixty years later, the Penn State Women’s Chorale continues
to entertain the community in their annual Christmas and Springtime
Concerts. Singing a repertoire of music that ranges from the
Renaissance time period to the Baroque to 20th century! If you are
interested in joining, please contact Mrs. Glocke or any one of the
Officers for further information on how you can become involved in this
classic Penn State tradition!
Credits
The Women's Chorale will provide you with ONE general
education Arts credit per semester enrolled.
How to Join
Auditions to join any one of the many choirs at Penn State take place
at the beginning of each semester. In order to try-out for the fall
semester, auditions are at the end of spring semester and also at the
first week of the fall semester. As the beginning of the semester
approaches, be sure to visit the Music Building to find out exact dates
and times of auditions. After auditions, you will be placed in a choir
that is most suiting to your schedule. Good luck!
Once you have auditioned and been placed in The Women’s Chorale, be sure to register for the course via elion or by visiting room 233 in Music Building I. Please register for Women's Chorale: Music 094.
Cantante
Cantante is a small ensemble selected out of the Women's Chorale
membership. The group consists of sixteen to twenty-five singers and
focuses on chamber literature. The group performs at all Women's
Chorale concerts as well as at selected campus events. Enrollment is by
audition with the conductor.
