I. EXECUTIVE BOARD

  1. How can I become a part of the WIB executive board?
    • Elections take place prior to the start of the 2nd Involvement Night in March. You must submit an application to the President and then prepare a speech for election night. Only active members are allowed to run and vote during elections. Active members fill out a ballot, and the new executive board will be determined by the end of the night.

II. EVENTS

  1. What type of events does WIB have to offer?
    • WIB holds corporate meetings, the annual Business Inferno, the Powerful Women Paving the Way Conference, community service events, THON events, socials, and many other networking opportunities.
  2. What is the Business Inferno?
    • The Business Inferno mocks the MTV series “The Inferno”. WIB gathers numerous corporate representatives along with a select few of Smeal’s organizations to compete in team building exercises. At the end of the day, the team with the most points wins money for their club as well as some great corporate prizes.

III. COMMUNITY SERVICE

  1. With what community service events is WIB involved?
    • WIB is involved with Penn State’s THON, the Second Mile, March of Dimes walk, Ronald McDonald House, Penn State’s Homecoming, and the Crop Walk.
  2. How can I be more involved with these events?
    • Join the Community Service Committee! Contact our Events Chair to be a part of the organization and planning of the events.

IV. THON

  1. What is THON?
    • THON is Penn State’s 46 hour dance marathon in support of kids with cancer. The money raised benefits the Four Diamond Fund at the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA. The student-run event takes place on one weekend during February. Students stand on their feet for 46 hours without any sleep.
  2. What is canning?
    • Canning is standing outside store locations or in the streets with a can in your hand asking people to donate money for THON. This is the main way organizations raise money for the THON total. On WIB’s canning trips, girls go to a member’s house and sleepover there for the weekend. Canning usually takes place all day Saturday and the morning of Sunday.
  3. What is hosting a canning trip?
    • Hosting a canning trip means a member, with the permission of her family, can “host” a number of WIB members at her house for the weekend. The parents usually make at least one home-cooked breakfast and dinner. Going to a variety of locations ensures our money will add up for our THON total.
  4. How can I host a canning trip?
    • Contact our THON chairs to sign up for any of the four canning weekends.
  5. What is a WIB dancer?
    • A WIB dancer dances all 46 hours without sitting or sleeping during THON weekend. The dancer not only represents WIB but also our THON child.
  6. How can I become a dancer?
    • To become a dancer, check out link "How to Become a THON Dancer" on the THON page. WIB is only allowed a certain number of dancers so be sure to attend as many WIB events as possible.
  7. How can I be more involved with THON through WIB?
    • Join our THON Committee! The THON committee helps organize canning trips and other events in support of our THON child. Contact our THON chairs if you are interested.

V. MEMBERSHIP

  1. Who can join WIB?
    • All male or female undergraduate majors at Penn State University are welcome to join.
  2. Why should I join WIB?
    • Women In Business can teach you how to succeed in a competitive professional environment; provide you with helpful, relevant information for your career/internship search; create opportunities for you network with representatives from major corporations; allow you to interact with faculty members in an informal setting; help you to get involved in the University and Penn State Dance Marathon (THON); and present an opportunity for you to meet other students, make new friends, and have fun.
  3. How can I join WIB?
    • Come to any of our events and sign up. You can also email a member of the executive board, who can give you more information about our events and membership requirements.
  4. How much are dues?
    • Dues are $13 for the semester or $21 for the year. A dollar of the dues is donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
  5. When are dues due?
    • Dues are due at the second Involvement Night of the semester. If you do not pay your dues at this time, you are not considered an active member.
  6. How do I know if I am an active member?
    • An active member must have at least 15 points and have paid her dues on time. Membership points are frequently updated under the Membership link. If you have any problems with the points you are rewarded, contact our Membership Chair.
  7. What are office hours?
    • Office hours are a great opportunity for members to talk with the executive board about WIB, internships, studying abroad, class scheduling, majors, resumes, and anything else you would like to discuss. Also, it is a time when members can drop off forms, dues, or any applications for WIB events.
  8. When are office hours?
Office hours change each semester. Please check back for the Fall 2009 office hours.
