Preparing Tomorrow’s Business Women for the World Ahead

History

Women in Business (WIB) began in October of 1997 under the direction of Jocelyn Bennett, Coordinator of Minority Affairs within the Smeal College of Business Administration.  During the spring semester of 1998, WIB received its official charter from the University.  Starting out with just a membership of seven (the entire executive board), WIB has grown enormously over the past nine years, and now boasts over 300 members.  WIB welcomes both male and female undergraduate students of all major into the organization.

Mission Statement

“To increase the recruitment and retention of women students in the Smeal College and to create an environment in which the women of the Smeal College can come together to discuss personal and professional issues pertinent to women in the corporate world."

Goals

  1. To aid in the recruitment of female students in the Smeal College of Business Administration by increasing awareness of opportunities for women.
  2. To foster women’s leadership abilities and create effective student leaders.
  3. To support the professional develop of our members.
  4. To volunteer in the surrounding community.
  5. To create a network between Women in Business, corporate executives, and University faculty.
