On November 18, 2000 five Penn State students performed in a talent show at the Dance Academy in State College, Pennsylvania.  After winning second place in the talent show, they decided to stick together and formed what was known as Creative Entertainment.  The original group, including all genres of the arts, eventually wanted to become a Penn State organization and was granted provisional status.  Soon after, the company expanded and began to include too vast of a variety of the performing arts.  In order to specialize in one type of performing art, the name Creative Entertainment was dropped and Whiplash Dance Team took its place and a life of its own.

From this point on, the team has grown both in size and especially in popularity.  Currently, there are 16 members that make up the team.  From the very first performance at Late Night Penn State in the HUB, Whiplash Dance Team became known around campus.  Eight years later, Whiplash's popularity draws crowds of hundreds to numerous performances throughout the academic year. Over the years, Whiplash has become more involved in the community with charitable and entertainment events.  Some of these events include performing at Penn State Basketball Games, 5-K Run for Autism, Breast Cancer Awareness, Multi-cultural Fair, 100 Days till THON, Valley Magazine Premiere, Late Night Penn State and Dancing with the Stars. With every year, Whiplash continues to evolve. The teams original colors, purple and black, changed to pink and black, and now yellow has been added to create a trio of team colors. The original Whiplash Dancer logo has been dropped and a hand drawn logo has taken its place. The team's uniforms were accessorized with matching pink sneakers and now new airbrushed sweatshirts and athletic pants are replacing the original uniform. As the times change, Whiplash continues to grow and evolve but the team's strong love of dance will always remain the same. We can only hope that the future brings us more talent, popularity and success.
