Penn State UUS is a group of students who may or may not claim to be Unitarian Universalists. The club receives support and encouragement from the local UU congregation, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, but the group itself is independent and student members may or may not be affiliated with the UUFCC or indeed, with any UU congregation.
Some members consider themselves "spiritual but not religious." Some may consider themselves seekers who have not yet settled on a particular theology. Some may follow a particular theology, but feel "out of place" in denominations that have rigid rules and structures. Others may not see themselves as religious at all.
Unitarian Universalism (UUism) is a liberal religious faith. There are no formal creeds or doctrines and members are encouraged to follow their own paths toward understanding. At our meetings, we gather to share our similarities and examine our differences, and to learn about various religions and philosophical perspectives. Through sharing, debate, introspection and reasoning, we help each other along on our journeys toward truth and wholeness.
Many of our members are involved with the local Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in State College which holds regular Sunday services and with the growing UU Young Adult Group in this area. State College is part of the Joseph Priestley District of Unitarian Universalist congregations.
