Last year we hosted this program for 65 high school students from nine different high schools, and it was a great success. Students learned the fundamentals of safety and technical theatre, and were able to attend sessions specific to their areas of interest. With two years under our belt, we have made many improvements, and hope to have an even bigger turnout this year. The tentative date for our program is January 22nd, 2010.
USITT@PSU’s High School Outreach Education Program is designed to give high school students the opportunity to learn about technical theatre in a college setting. Your students will learn from the members of USITT@PSU about lighting, sound, scenic painting, props, stage make-up, stage management, and technical directing. They will have the opportunity to learn about the design process and safety procedures to use when working backstage. By the end of the day the students will go back to their high schools with a better understanding of technical theater. This is not a Penn State recruitment, although information on our program will be available. PLease note there will be a $15 fee per student to help cover lunch and teaching costs.

The United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) is an association of design, production and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry. USITT@PSU is proud to call itself the largest and most active student chapter in the nation. We pride ourselves on being active not only in the theatre world but in the local community as well. Through the strong commitment from our membership body and good graces of the Penn State School of Theatre we have been able to organize vents that act as both fundraisers for the organization and entertainment for the surrounding community.
