William Kenyon

Professor Kenyon serves as Head of the Design & Technology Program, and runs the Lighting Design Emphasis at Penn State. An active professional designer, Prof. Kenyon has designed over 150 plays, operas, and dances, along with over a dozen national/international tour seasons with several companies.   Prof. Kenyon’s recent work includes performances at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Wolftrap, and the Qatar International Arts Festival. He has also designed for the Metropolitan Playhouse, Opera Delaware, Ballet Theatre of Central Pennsylvania, Nebraska Rep, Russian Ballet Theatre of Delaware, Opera Omaha, University of Iowa, and MTI-Disney.  Prof. Kenyon has been involved in Native American theatre and dance for over 15 years, serving as resident LD for the American Indian Dance Theatre, and was involved in the complete reimagining of “Unto These Hills”, a massive outdoor spectacle celebrating the history of the Cherokee.  Prior to Penn State, William taught Lighting & Sound Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prof. Kenyon received his BFA from the University of Connecticut, having studied with Jim Franklin, and his MFA from Brandeis University, having studied with Bob Moody, Dennis Parichy, and Karl Eigsti. Having recently finished his 6-year term as Co-Commissioner for Education with USITT, Prof. Kenyon now serves as the USITT Delegate to the OISTAT Education Commission, and serves as a member of the USITT Membership and USITT Awards Committees. Prof. Kenyon is also the Education Editor for USITT’s journal TD&T. Member of USITT, OISTAT, IALD, IESNA, and USAA Local #829 in the areas of Lighting and Sound Design.  When not on tour or in tech, Mr. Kenyon is working on climbing the highest point in each U.S. state. He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife Jenny, a Costume and Scenic Designer, and his daughter Delaney.

Eric Rouse

Faculty Advisor

MFA from Penn State University in 1997. Eric was the Technical Director at University of South Carolina in Columbia for three years. He worked for Flying by Foy in Las Vegas from 1997-1999, and continues to freelance for them. Credits at Foy include The Backstreet Boys World Tour, Walt Disney’ World’'s Tarzan show in Orlando, and various TV awards shows. Worked at Cirque du Soleil’s “ from 1999-2002 as an Automation Technician and Supervisor in the Rigging Department, where he maintained all of the rigging elements in the theatre, helped design new elements, and insured the safety of artists and technicians working overhead and under water. Member of USITT and IATSE.

Rachel Miller is the secretary for USITT@PSU. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in Sound Design. In her time here, she's also going to achieve an Associate's Degree in Information Sciences in Technology and a Music Technology minor. Credits include; Kiss Me, Kate! (Sound Designer), Sound intern at the CLO in Pittsburgh, Grey Gardens (Mix Engineer), The Drowsy Chaperone (Sound Designer), Peter Pan (A2), Oliver! (Mix Engineer), Sunday in the Park with George (A2), and others. Rachel is passionate about music, technology, and learning as much as she can.
