WELCOME TO THE PENN STATE STUDENT ORGANIZATION FOR SOCIETY AND NATURAL RESOURCES (SOSNR)!

SOSNR was created to foster multidisciplinary discussions concerning society and natural resources and promote cross-disciplinary cooperation among faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates at Penn State.  SOSNR encourages inter-departmental communication, local community activities and educational events, and both formal and informal exploration of social and natural resource issues.  SOSNR is open to both graduate students and undergraduates.

SOSNR is an official student chapter of the International Association for Society and Natural Resources (IASNR). IASNR is an interdisciplinary professional association open to individuals from social science and natural science backgrounds.  Members’ research often pertains to the human dimensions of environmental and natural resource issues. The official journal, “Society and Natural Resources,” publishes research articles and policy analyses pertaining to a broad range of topics addressing the relationships between social and biophysical systems. The official meetings, the International Symposia on Society and Resource Management (ISSRM), are held annually.

SOSNR provides an opportunity for Penn State students to increase their involvement with IASNR and other professional activities.  SOSNR members enjoy registration and travel scholarship opportunities to the (ISSRM) and professional contacts with international leaders exploring social and natural sciences.
