Team Information

The Penn State Ski Team (PSST) is comprised of students that love to ski and are interested in the sport of alpine ski racing.  PSST offer's opportunities for skiers, regardless of ability levels, to improve their skiing while, at the same time, meeting other PSU students who share similar interests.  Here is how the team works.

Fall Semester

Even though there is no snow yet, the team is still very active.  We do a few fund raisers, various social events, and also hold dryland practices.  Athletes intending on trying out for the team must complete 22 hours of dryland practices to be eligible. All team members must also participate in the annual stadium clean following a certain PSU Football game each fall.

Spring Semester

At the beginning of spring semester, tryouts are held at Tussey Mountain for those athletes wishing to be on the competitive teams.  The results are examined and the top 5 men/women are placed onto the A team.  The second fastest 5 men/women are placed onto the B team.  All other members are placed onto the C team (no one has ever been cut from the Ski Team!).  While all members are encouraged to compete, there is a recreational team for those who do not wish to compete.

Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from approximately 6:30 pm to 10pm at Tussey Mountain.  Intramural practice courses are set on Wednesdays to give skiers an optional day to train in slalom/GS courses.

Regular season races take place on weekends starting at 9 am.  The team usually departs campus by 6pm on Fridays and returns Sunday night. The A and B teams are required to attend weekend events.  However, all members are strongly encouraged to attend.  Regional and national championships for the A team take place shortly after the regular season ends, near the end of February.

The semester ends with a team banquet held at Tussey Mountain.
