British Lawmaker and Member of Parliament (an MP) George Galloway will be visiting our campus to give a keynote speech on Wednesday March 25, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the HUB Alumni Hall.
MP Galloway is a well known political commentator, known for his condemnation of the near genocidal Iraq sanctions, the Iraq War, and other issues involving International Law and Human Rights.
He recently led a convoy of aid and supplies from the U.K. to Gaza after Israel's 22 day bombardment. The week of Galloway's visit will mark the sixth anniversary of the Iraq invasion. MP Galloway will also discuss the increase in troops to Afghanistan and the ongoing tragedy of Gaza. |

- How can we make sense of the recent attack on Gaza?
- What does the timing of the attack and the ceasefire reveal about Israel’s
intentions?
- Will the attack lead to political realignments in Palestine, Israel, and the
Arab regimes?
- What impact will the attack likely have on Hamas’ politics and on the future of
- the Palestinian resistance movement?
- What is the role of the United States in relation to Israel’s policies in the
occupied territories?
- Can we expect a change of course from Obama? If so, in what direction?

Report: Netanyahu says 9/11 terror attacks good for Israel
The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been beneficial for Israel.
"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq," Ma'ariv quoted the former prime minister as saying. He reportedly added that these events "swung American public opinion in our favor."..[Haaretz & Reuters, 04-16-2008]
Our reign of terror, by the Israeli army; In shocking testimonies that reveal abductions, beatings and torture, Israeli soldiers confess the horror they have visited on Hebron
The birds are singing as he describes in detail some of what he did and saw others do as an enlisted soldier in Hebron. And they are certainly criminal: the incidents in which Palestinian vehicles are stopped for no good reason, the windows smashed and the occupants beaten up for talking back – for saying, for example, they are on the way to hospital; the theft of tobacco from a Palestinian shopkeeper who is then beaten "to a pulp" when he complains; the throwing of stun grenades through the windows of mosques as people prayed. And worse... [The Independent, 04-19-2008]
Israeli Defense Minister and Labor Chairman Ehud Barak: Security of Israelis more important than Gazans' plight
"We see and are aware of the Gazans' suffering. The situation there is tough, but the suffering of [Israeli] civilians in Gaza-area communities in Sderot and Ashkelon and of Israel Defense Forces soldiers who are protecting that area is more important to us," Barak said...[Haaretz, 04-17-2008]
UN expert stands by Nazi comments
Professor Falk said he drew the comparison between the treatment of Palestinians with the Nazi record of collective atrocity, because of what he described as the massive Israeli punishment directed at the entire population of Gaza... [BBC News, 04-08-2008]
Rights group: Shin Bet uses relatives to extract prisoners' confessions
In a report to be submitted Sunday to the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, the organization says the Shin Bet makes unjustified arrests of family members, or creates the pretense of such arrests to pressure suspects... [Haaretz, 04-13-2008]
Israel shaken by troops' tales of brutality against Palestinians; A psychologist blames assaults on civilians in the 1990s on soldiers' bad training, boredom and poor supervision
The soldiers described dozens of incidents of extreme violence. One recalled an incident when a Palestinian was shot for no reason and left on the street. 'We were in a weapons carrier when this guy, around 25, passed by in the street and, just like that, for no reason - he didn't throw a stone, did nothing - bang, a bullet in the stomach, he shot him in the stomach and the guy is dying on the pavement and we keep going, apathetic. No one gave him a second look,' he said.... [The Observer, 10-21-2007]
