Presidential Address 2011 |
First, I would like to welcome incoming students and welcome back old students to Penn State. This upcoming year is a chance to explore new opportunities, meet new friends and make your Penn State experience an unforgettable one! I would like to share with you something that has become a passion of mine and it is The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, better known as SHPE. The SHPE Penn State chapter has so much to offer members to help them grow academically, socially, and professionally. Our events are created for our members and range from mock interviews, corporate tailgates, and etiquette dinners to laser tag, salsa nights, and homemade dinners. We are also involved in the community participating in events such as Relay for Life and Penn State's THON. Our members come from all different backgrounds both Hispanic and non-Hispanic alike, and what I have found that members coming back is the open family like atmosphere. We are more than an organization; we are about creating lifelong friendships that has become the SHPE Familia to help one another grow. SHPE is the Source for Quality Hispanic Engineers and Technical Talent, and we are brought together by heritage, social responsibility and desire to improve the euality of all people through the use of science and technology. We value excellence in education, professional pursuits and leadership. We obtain excellence through integrity, empowerment, achievement, diversity and continuous improvement. As part of this organization, we must use our culture to bring a different perspective to the table while at the same time keeping an open mind and listening to different ideas from our own. We will have a table at the Engineering Involvement Fair and the Penn State Involvement Fair so please stop by and visit us during the Fall Semester. We hope to see you at our first meeting on August 30th, where the location and time will be advertised later on. Sincerely,Mindy SanchezPresidentSociety of Hispanic Professional EngineersThe Pennsylvania State University |
