Hate mail, death threats, racist graffitti, harrassment of black students, skinheads in suspenders and combat boots parading the sidewalks with impunity, Confederate flags flying on our streets, insensitive newspaper editorials, and ethnocentric journalists -- all the distasteful things you would expect to find in Nazi Germany or some backwards town full of KKK sympathizers, have become commonplace at Penn State as of late, not to mention around the nation as well. A university renowned for its educational excellence and scientific achievements seems unable to shake off the ignorance and nescience that belongs to the realm of the misinformed and uneducated. Is it the rising tide of white Christian conservative political power bringing out the closet racists, homophobes, white supremacists, and other borderline schizophrenics? Or is it a latent problem that we have not fully acknowledged and have yet to seriously attempt to expunge? And what can we, as rational observers of this trend, do about it in our own community?

This second message was received a week later and was also sent ot the Black Caucus President. Note the identical style, all capitals and excessive use of exclamation points, in addition to grammatical and spelling errors. Note the curious spelling of the word "ASS'S" with an apostrophe in the first letter and the failure to use an apostrophe in "TIMES" in the second, as well as the failure to use hyphens in several places. These are recurring mistakes that the student surely makes in his homework also. Note also the distinctively unusual use of the X in place of the K in several spots in the first letter. We also learn from these two letters that he is a football fan and reads the Collegian. These letters were most likely printed from a computer, but not likely a school computer.

The next letter was received at the same time as the previous. It was directed through the Black Caucus President to another student. Note the unusually well-printed text. This is almost as good as having a handwriting sample, since few students can print so evenly. Most probably this student is in Engineering, and is perhaps a sophomore or junior who's recently taken Engineering Graphics. Does anyone in ME recognize this print?

In the above letter, note the use of the term ingrate, which seems to have some special meaning to him, or else he's picked up the usage from some hate group website. Also, it's clear this guy knows the local highways. He has a car and travels home to somewhere other than State College.
On the envelope that carried the above message was the following note:

This little note mis-spelled "wasting" in a way that engineers sometimes do. He uses a very unusual mis-spelled epithet, "mudd people." This term is used by Christian Identity groups and no-one else. These people twist Scripture to suit their racist objectives, and deem Blacks and others as the "Unchosen" or "mud people." This guy is apparently a Christian white supremacist, possibly a member of a local Christian Identity group. There are many in the area, the most notable being in Boyertown, Potter County, and just outside Allentown.
The following is a press release excerpt from two letters sent on or about April 19th. We will print the original if we can get it later.

In this excerpt, notice again some very distinctive grammatical errors and mis-spelled words. Note the strange spelling of "hellified" in place of "helluva" or "hell of a" and also "parrish" instead of "perish." Note the mis-spelling of harrisburgh -- obviously he doesn't live there.
Take note of some of the distinctive lettering in the printed text. Several of the letters are idiosyncratic, such as the over-accentuated 'K' and 'W' and the separated 'R' -- could these be his initials? KW, WK, KR, RW, KRW, WRK, RWK, RKW, etc.? Note also the subtle uniqueness of the 'C' (drops below line), the non-orthogonal 'T' (perhaps another initial, WTK, KTW, etc) and the 'B'(symmetric top and bottom half). These are dead giveaways to anyone who sees this print on a homework or application.

It would take about five days to review financial aid records, starting with white males in Engineering whose initials begin with K, W, R, or T, to identify this person but perhaps this is too much effort to expect from the FBI and the Administration. We urge any students or staff who might know him or recognize the idiosyncratic print to turn him in before he does harm to anyone.
