Penn State Class Description
Class Pic Frank Shamrock Seminar
In Quantum Jujitsu, we practice a broad range of techniques drawn from the 25 elements. This means that the style of training and the material covered in class can vary greatly over time. The different skill-sets we typically train are groundfighting, takedowns, and striking. However, we also work between these areas some days and other days we may work on basic weapon defenses or pre-fight strategy. For a more complete list click on the 25 elements link above.
The structure of class is as follows:
1) Typically the class will begin with 30 minutes of warm-up. Warm-up can consist of drills, exercises, Warrior Yoga , or a combination of all three. However, drills are always done. The drills are based on the skill set we will be training that day. For example, if we will be doing throws and takedowns we do rolls and falls. For ground fighting we will do our shrimps and escape drills. For striking, footwork, and movement drills are used.
2) After doing sets of drills we will focus on developing a combination, or series of techniques for 40-45 minutes. For instance, we may work a punch (jab), a kick (shin kick), and takedown (double leg). Or maybe a set of ground techniques, arm bar from guard, triangle, and omo plata, etc. x
4) Next we go over martial arts philosophy, concepts and principles for 5 minutes before we spar.
5) We will have 30-45 minutes of live training (sparring) almost every class. We train striking, Gi and no Gi takedowns, ground fighting, and all of it together depending on the day. At the heart of our martial arts is the conviction that one must work in combinations and develop those combination against an opponent who is responding, resisting, countering, and working for their own techniques to completely understand and be able to apply a technique. Hence, live training every practice.
