Shiatsu  Restoration Massage Therapy Notes

Fall 2001

Make sure you have a quiet, interruption free environment and enough space to work.  The massage needs to be given on a semi-soft surface.  A bed will not work, and will in fact be worse than hard ground.  You can give the massage on a Gym mat, or a futon preferably.  If you can't get a gym mat or futon, soft carpet will work, especially if you lay a thick quilt under the person.  Eventually though, you'll need to work out a better surface.  Improvise with what you have!  Remember always use good form, no slop.  Usually that means sitting in seiza!

Have the person fill out your forms and ask them if they have any cuts, sicknesses, or particular complaints for you to address.  Let the person arrange them selves under the blanket while you are out the room washing your hands and oiling them and your forearms up.
