Rules of Engagement

Quantum Jujitsu Student Orientation

Etiquette:

1) Get the ten situations in which to bow sheet and bow in those ten situations.

2) Learn how to properly care for your Gi (uniform).  Roll it coming to and from class.  Learn the formal method for rolling and tying it.  Clean it after no more than two uses or once a week—whichever is the shorter expanse of time.  The obi (belt) should never be washed and kept off of the ground as much as possible.  Ripped, torn, overly discolored, or stained Gis and t-shirts will not be allowed.

3) Take care of the Dojo.  Students are expected to be on time to help mop before class and expected to stay to mop and vacuum the carpet after class.

4) All students are expected and required to plan ahead and attend all the seminars with guest instructors the club holds each semester (usually two).

Safety:

1) No horseplay in the Dojo.

2) Do not wear any item that can be caught on or cut another person.  For instance, jewelry, necklaces, watches, finger and toe nails, etc.

3) Do not start sparring without Sensei’s or the mat referee’s permission.

4) Practice only the techniques the class is currently working on.

5) The successful completion of technique in the Dojo is never worth sacrificing someone’s health to accomplish (in distinction to the street where that is often the goal!).  Always maintain your partner’s safety as your top priority.

Education:

1) The primary thing you can do to get better is to attend all the classes and train hard in class. Do as many repetitions as you can at the highest level of quality you can.

2) Attend Warrior Yoga classes as they are available.

3) Get the current belt test of the level you should be working on—this will help you set goals.  The belt test defines some specific goals for your education at each level.

4) Read the information on-line about Quantum Jujitsu at www.quantumjujitsu.com and at www.clubs.psu.edu/quantumjujitsu.  Make sure and look at the Quantum Jujitsu and Warrior Yoga student manuals on-line.

5) Check out the recommend list of books at www.clubs.psu.edu/quantumjujistu under ‘Picture and Video Gallery’ to do some at home studying.
