Reading Recommendations
Books are good for furthering your training by getting you to think about what you are doing, and just as importantly, getting you excited which makes you train harder. They are no replacement for training. But if you are coming into the Dojo regularly as you should be, this list can help motivate your training.
Books on Warrior Philosophy:
Being a philosopher as well I had a list so long it was getting to be comprehensive of the genre! So I limited it down to this, my Sensei's book. Sensei Corbell wrote this book and it is available sometimes from me and always from him at www.quantumjujitsu.com
Radiant Source
Books on the pre-fight ritual and the first three seconds of combat:
Geoff Thompson is the undisputed ruler of this genre of books. His website is at www.geoffthompson.com. Good books to look at to start would be:
The Fence
The Art of Fighting Without Fighting
Three Second Fighter
Also John Will has a real good book, compatible with Geoff Thompson's, but more technique oriented. His book is available at his website www.bjj.com.au. The book is entitled:
Fight-Logic: The Integration of Stand-Up and Groundwork
Books on Street Fighting Generally:
Peyton Quinn and Marc 'the Animal' MacDonald are good authors in this genre.
Books on Striking:
Ned Beaumont writes a book I don't wholly agree with (esp. on the jab technique) but that is good for getting you to take your striking out of the Dojo and into the street.
Championship Streetfighting
Books on Throwing:
This book cannot teach you to throw, but it has a long list of throws and all of them photo illustrated. It can be good for getting you to remember a forgotten technique, or maybe think of it in a new way.
Kodokan Judo, by Jigoro Kano
Books on Groundfighting:
John Will's books on ground fighting are the best I have seen, by quite a margin. He has three volumes of books available from his site is at http://www.bjj.com.au/shop.htm
Books on Traditional Japanese Weapons:
The must have books are by modern day ninja Masaaki Hatsumi. His book on staff is called:
Stick Fighting
