Shinai: The first of two swords used in kendo. It is lightweight, made of bamboo pieces and leather, and is used for sparring.

Bokken: The second of two swords used in kendo. It is made of a heavier wood than the shinai and is used for kata.

Keikogi: The traditional uniform top.

Hakama: The traditional uniform pants, allowing for easier movement and flexibility.

Bogu: The sparring armor, consisting of a chest guard (do), waist guard (tare), gloves (kote), and a helmet (men).
