Shinai - The first of two swords used in kendo. It is lightweight, made of bamboo pieces and leather, and is used for sparring.

Bokken - The second of two swords used in kendo. It is made of a heavier wood than the shinai and is used for kata.

Keikogi - The traditional uniform top.

Hakama - The traditional uniform pants, allowing for easier movement and flexibility.

Bogu - The sparring armor, consisting of a chest guard, waist guard, gloves, and a helmet.
