Philadelphia, Pa – October 27, 2001 – Following
a tradition of a century of teams rowing on the Schuylkill River, Penn
State Crew raced in the historic Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in
Philadelphia. PSU Competed against over 500 crews, including the University of Pennsylvania,
Princeton, Navy, and Syracuse.
PSU Crew entered four boats to race and produced
at least one medal. The girls heavyweight pair, rowed by Kathryn Burleigh and Marissa Weber,
took third place in their event.
Other PSU entries
included a men’s novice four that finished 7th, women’s heavyweight
four finishing 19th, and a men’s lightweight eight in 12th
place. Penn State beat such teams as
West Virginia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Emory University.
Coach Susan Saint Sing said, “Penn State Crew made a tremendous showing
against crews with 100 years of rowing tradition.”
Penn State Crew races next in the Frostbite Regatta
on November 10, and the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta on November 11, 2001.
