Pittsburgh -- Feb, 9 2002 -- The Penn State Crew Team competed
Saturday in the 10th annual Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championship sponsored by the Three-Rivers
Rowing Association taking first overall as a team according to unofficial sources.
Of the 24 rowers entered to race 18 took home medals including three
first-place finishes by Evan Neft, Steve Pucheck, and the openweight coed relay team. The novice
lightweight men; Steve Pucheck, John Kaag, and Joey Henry swept their category, claiming the top
three finishing spots for Penn State. Also giving strong performances were Patrick O'dunne, Michelle
Nash and Erin Riley with second place finishes and Ken Wedel, Lori Simon, Chrissy "HUGE" Cohen, Julia
Grimm, and Megan Barret capturing third place finishes.
The Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championships is a satellite regatta for the
CRASH-B Sprints, the World Indoor Rowing Championships held in Boston, Massachussetts. Qualifying top
finishers from Pittsburgh receive a free trip to compete against other world-class athletes February 4th.
Penn State Crew next competes at the Bucknell Erg Armageddon Feb. 23rd on
the Bucknell campus.
