Virginia, Va – October 14, 2001 – This past weekend Penn State Crew gave a commanding performance
with five first place finishes at the ninth annual Occoquan Chase which is hosted by George Mason
University in Fairfax County, Virginia. PSU dominated every lightweight event, finishing first in
all men's and women's lightweight races. Also, the men's heavyweight four took first, the men's
lightweight four (b) finished second, and the women's heavyweight four took third.
Penn State's world-class coach Susan Saint Sing, said, "now that PSU Crew has found a home at Bald
Eagle State Park we are competitively racing with not only the Big 10, but also the eastern division
schools including Duke, Johns Hopkins, William and Maryland, and Alexandria Rowing, a national caliber
team." Penn State tied Alexandria for first place in the women's lightweight eight event.
Penn State Crew competes next in the Head of the Charles Regatta on October 20 and 21 in Boston, Massachussetts.
PSU Crew will be fielding an open-weight women's eight in the Charles, the largest regatta in the nation.
