CAMDEN, NJ - April 13, 2002 - Fighting a fierce headwind all
day on the 2000-meter racecourse, Penn State Crew emerged victorious Saturday with two gold medals at Villanova University's
Knecht Cup regatta.
"For the men, we have two gold medals and two of our crews are undefeated this spring,
which will seed us very high in the Dad Vail Regatta, our National Conference Championship." Said Coach Susan Saint
Sing, who is in her first year as varsity coach for Penn State Crew.
Rowing against schools like Wisconsin, Radcliff, Kansas, Princeton and West Point,
Penn State's lightweight and heavyweight men's fours each produced gold medals, while the women's pair finished in second
place, and still many more PSU boats advanced into the finals.
"We finished in the top ten at this race," Saint Sing said, "and were invited for the first time to race in the Big
Ten women's dual meet scheduled by Wisconsin."
Four gold medals in the past two weekends gives Penn State Crew increased
morale and inspiration as the team moves into the heat of its spring racing season.
Penn State Crew will host a scrimmage with Bucknell University Sunday, April 21 on
their home water at Bald Eagle State Park.
"This is a landmark event for PSU Crew," Said Coach John Biddle. "It would be great
to get as many students out there as possible for support."
The team will then travel to Virginia to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships, and will
finally conclude the season one week after Finals Week as they row in the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa.
