Penn State Crew Victorious in the Face of Armageddon

     Lewisburg, Pa – Feb. 23, 2002 – Penn State Crew competed Saturday in Erg Armageddon, an indoor rowing competition hosted by Bucknell University.

     Rowing against schools such as Fordham, Bucknell, LaSalle and Susquehanna, PSU brought home six medals in all, two of which were won by Lori Simon who took silver in both the 2,000 and 500 meter heavyweight women’s events.

     Jessica Lobos and Drew Criado finished in second place in the varsity mixed doubles, and Debbie Schroeder and Mike McDavid took silver in the novice division.

     Also, four Penn State rowers went to Boston this weekend to compete in CRASH-B’s, the indoor rowing world championship. Heavyweights Pat O’Dunne and Ken Wedel scored 6:14 and 6:27, respectively, while lightweight rower Evan Neft pulled a 6:41. Lightweight woman, Anne Morrissey, scored 8:46.

     "We have a great deal of depth on the team and are regularly beating many NCAA varsity programs," Coach Susan Saint Sing said.

     PSU Crew will spend spring break in Summerton, SC for extensive training and will compete next in the Knecht Cup in Camden, NJ.

     "We are very excited to get on the water for the spring racing season," Coach Saint Sing said.
