Fall 2004 Racing News

  • Head of the Ohio (October 2nd): Congratulations to the Men's Lightweight 4+ (Jon Stine, Max Feldman, Phil Ponsolle, Brian Shadle, coxed by Amy Ruttenberg) for 2nd place, and the Women's Lightweight 4+ (Debbie Schroeder, Cassie O'Flaherty, Lisa Plesko, Jen Bucholtz, coxed by Lisa DeLosso) for 8th place.   • Head of the Susquehanna (October 3rd): The team also performed strong at Susquehanna. Congratulations to the Women's Varsity 8+ (Tess McNamara, Faheema Mustafaa, Kelly Cline, Kristen Mascitelli, Ellen Remaley, Natalie Dell, Kathleen Donovan, Rachel Morgans, coxed by Maria Sansone) for recieving the gold! Also, congratulations for the Men's Varsity 8+ (Brian Pomerantz, Mike Welsh, Howard Fiddy, Mark Reidenbach, Dave Miller, Peter Vaiana, Mike Domen, John Dixon, coxed by Julia Phillips) for 2nd place, and the Women's Junior Varsity 8+ (Stephanie Teng, Lauren Wilke, Lauren McGovern, Brittany Boehm, Kate Lee, Michelle Walter, Sarah Koch, Stephanie Banach, coxed by Erin Pierce) for 3rd place.

  • Head of the Charles (October 23rd): Results are available at the Head of the Charles Official Site. Congratulations to the Men's Club 8+ for bracing the high winds of Boston!

  • Head of the Schuylkill (October 30th): Results are available at the Head of the Schuylkill Official Site. You can order prints from the race at Sport Graphics! Go to the rowing search page and search for "Penn State" in the 2004 Head of the Schuylkill.

  • Head of the Occoquan (November 6th): The team performed extremely well this weekend, bringing home several medals. Complete results are available through RONIN Racing.

  • Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta (November 13th): Over the weekend, crews who brought home gold medals included the Men's Novice 4+ A, Men's Varsity Lightweight 4+, Women's Varsity 8+ A, and the Men's Varsity 8+. Complete results can be found at the Official Frostbite website.

  • Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta (November 14th): Congratulations to the Women's Varsity 4+ B for winning gold! Complete results can be found at the Official Braxton website.


Fall 2004 General Announcements

Wrapping Up Spring 2004

The team concluded the spring season last weekend (May 7-8) with the 2004 Dad Vail Regatta. All crews rowed "with all the heart" and ended the season as champions. Congratulations to the Womens Novice Lightweight 8 (Colleen Loiseau, Erin Pierce, Kirsten Tawse, Danielle Susi, Stephanie Teng, Julia Philips, Cassie O'Flaherty, Jen Bucholtz; coxed by Carrie Merkel) for winning bronze. Special thanks goes out to PSU Crew alumni, family, and friends for their continued support and assistance this entire year. From the bottom of our rower hearts, thank you!

Congratulations to graduating seniors Jake Feldman, Carrie "Mad Dog" Merkel, Evan "Big Neftizzle" Neft, and Mike Welsh. These rowers and coxswains will forever be a part of the Penn State Crew family.

Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships

This past weekend (May 2), the team traveled to Virginia for the 2004 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships, and returned home victorious. Congratulations to the following crews:

Bronze: Mens Heavyweight 4 (Mike Domen, Jake Feldman, Evan Neft, Mike Welsh), coxed by Anne Morrissey

Silver: Mens Lightweight 4 (Brian Shadle, Phil Ponsolle, Max Feldman, Joey Henry), coxed by Carrie Merkel

Gold: Womens Varsity 8 (Tess McNamara, Kristen Mascitelli, Kelly Cline, Kathleen Donovan, Natalie Dell, Rachel Morgans, Ellen Remaley, Debbie Schroeder), coxed by Chrissy Cohen

Susquehanna / PSU / Bucknell Men Tri Meet

This just in: Coach John Biddle announces with great pleasure that Penn State Crew will be racing this weekend (April 25) against Susquehanna University and Bucknell University Men. This will be an opportunity for the team to race against two of our steady competitors who we will see again in the following weeks. The race will be held at the Shamokin Dam in Sunbury, PA.


2004 Knecht Cup

Penn State Crew made its presence in Camden, NJ this past weekend (April 17-18) at the 2004 Knecht Cup.

For starters, CONGRATULATIONS to Mike Domen, Jake Feldman, Evan Neft, and Mike Welsh for winning the gold in the Men's Club Four division! Several other crews, both novice and varsity, performed extremely well, so be sure to check out the final results available at the Villanova website.

Occoquan Sprints 2004

Continuing with the second race of the spring season, the team traveled this past weekend (April 4) to Virginia for the Occoquan Sprints. There was a little wind in the air that affected crews on and off of the water, but Penn State Crew rises to challenges... Murphy Cup 2004

The team blasted off its spring racing season this past weekend (March 27) at the Murphy Cup Regatta! Check out the results of the races, available at Row2k.


THON 2004

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is a 48-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping fundraising event that benefits The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer. Visit the THON website for more information.
