Hostigos has been published semi-regularly since 1970, bringing original stories, artwork, articles, and comics to the State College area. Although there were some pretty impressive gaps in publication (the second issue came out in 1977, but we don't want to talk about that) new issues have recently been coming out about twice a year.

According to Tom Marcinko, "the name comes from the late H. Beam Piper's novel LORD KALVAN OF OTHERWHEN [Ace, 1965]; Hostigos is Bellefonte in his alternate Centre County. Penn State has no counterpart in that world; apparently higher education is a low priority..." Bellefonte is the county seat for Centre County, located 13 miles north of State College in central Pennsylvania. Despite the local inspiration (both author and location), the actual contents of Hostigos are largely unrelated.
