Power Shift Pennsylvania will held
this weekend! Power Shift Pennsylvania (which will be held mostly in the HUB and Willard) is our state's first large-scale youth summit focused on climate change and environmental justice. Organized by the Keystone Environmental Youth (KEY) Coalition and partner organizations of the Energy Action Coalition, this conference will inspire youth leaders to step up and unite for clean, just solutions in Pennsylvania. Register for the weekend (only $15 for Penn State students) or volunteer and attend Power Shift for free!
- Next Wednesday, October 28 from 6-7pm, Environmental Society will be hosting Dr. Dorothy Blair, Assistant Professor of Nutritional Science! Dr. Blair will give both an inspiring and informational lecture on "Food Behavior and Climate Change: What kind of actions are necessary?" The lecture will be held in 135 Reber Building (on Burrowes Road, one block up from College Avenue). This lecture will be relevant to everyone, so make sure to invite friends, especially non-environmentalists!
- As a club that educates, volunteers, and enjoys nature, Environmental Society would like to become more focused in our mission! Thus, we would like to form a mission statement. Input from any and all members would be appreciated. If you haven't done so already, join the facebook group (search Penn State Environmental Society) and post your thoughts on the page!
- Shaver's Creek Environmental Center will be hosting its annual Children's Halloween Trail and Festival this weekend! If you would like to volunteer to help host nearly 1,000 visitors during the weekend, e-mail the volunteer coordinator at
chtvolunteers@outreach.psu.edu.
- The Historic Harvest Festival at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center will be held on November 8 from 2-5 pm. This fun, free event offers visitors a chance to explore the nature center and enjoy food, games, crafts, demonstrations, contests and more at this family event with a historic harvest theme! If you would like to volunteer for the event, please let an officer know by November 1.
- Finally, Environmental Society would like to support the
Coal-Free Campus campaign run by the Sierra Club. We will be discussing ideas to help the campaign at our next meeting.
