Plan B 2.0:

Rescuing a Planet Under Stress

and a Civilization in Trouble

John Stevenson's Review: This book is the most comprehensive environmental literature I have ever read, including my textbooks.  It is divided into 3 sections covering the issues we face in the future, proposed solutions and a motivating optimistic portion about what is being done now.  He discusses oil, water, global warming, civilization collapse, poverty and starvation.  If it sounds sad, that's because the first part is.  I would not recommend reading it straight through but using it as a reference book for specific topics.  Lester R. Brown gives an excellent analysis of ethanol production and outlines global water shortages.  In Jan. 08, Plan B 3.0 was published.  I enjoyed 2.0 so much that I will be purchasing 3.0 and it will appear here soon.  Btw, all 3 editions are available in their entirety at his website.

A Primer on Sustainable Building:
Rocky Mountain Institute 2004

John Stevenson's Review:  This was my textbook for the American Indian Housing Initiative class(AE 497H), but it is very readable and comprehensive.  There are interesting and often humorous examples throughout, and it's pretty reasonable at 100 pages.  Like all information from the Rocky Mountain Institute, you will have a new awareness for how much better we can do after you read it.
