We in Penn State Christian Grads are interested in pursuing issues of social justice from a Christian perspective. We aim both to raise awareness amongst our peers of injustices that are occurring around the world, and to do what we can to help those that are oppressed. We believe that this is important because every human being is created in the likeness of God, and is therefore special. We are also called by Jesus Christ to be His ambassadors in this world, and to show His love for all people, both by physically helping the needy and the oppressed, and by bringing the good news of the Gospel to all people.

In late April 2009 we partnered with the Penn State chapter of International Justice Mission to screen the documentary The Day My God Died, in an effort to increase awareness of the issue of human trafficking. Below we have some information sheets and links to other resources from that screening. We are currently in discussions as a group to decide how best to proceed. If you would like to get involved or if you have suggestions of things we as a group could do, please contact Katie Tenny.

To take another step in educating ourselves about modern day slavery, a weekly book club started up the week of July 20 and will finish at the end of August. This will be a great way to learn more about this important topic and find ways that we can personally make a difference in ending slavery. Anyone is welcome to join the book club, and please invite friends and whoever you think would be interested! It's summer, and people jump in and out of town, but even if you will miss a few because of that, don't let that stop you from joining if you are interested!

The Book: Understanding Global Slavery by Kevin Bales
The Time: Wednesdays from 7-8pm through the end of August
The Place: Irving's (near the corner of College and Allen)
The Online Forum: Click here (book club participants only)

If you can't come to a particular weekly meeting, or have other thoughts or resources that you'd like to share with the entire group, we have an online forum where participants in the book club can view and post information (non-participants cannot view the forum). If you have questions about the book club, please contact Katie Tenny.
