This is the first year for Penn State's new youth poultry science seminar Youth Poultry 101. Several club members helped with the event. Everyone had a great time sharing our poultry knowledge and presenting the club to potential future members.
_______ At the end of every year we get together and recognize our advisors, outstanding club members, and friends. We also invite a guest speaker to address the club. This year Mr. Walt Peechatka was our guest speaker. Some of the student awards are shown below.
_______ Spring Industry Tour to Hy-line Hatchery in Elizabethtown, PA and Kreider Farms in Manheim, PA
_______ Easter Egg Roll in Washington, DC For the second year in a row the club was invited to volunteer at the Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn. At the Egg Roll there are activities and games for kids to celebrate Easter. We got to help hand out items and run different booths throughout the day.
_______ Spring Meeting Guest Speaker: Dr. Paul Bartell Dr. Bartell is one of the newest additions to the Poultry Science Department Faculty. He spoke to the club about his current research projects regarding hormones and carcadian rhythms. _______ Every year the club fills Easter baskets and donates them to the local food bank for kids who may not otherwise receive anything on Easter. We made over 40 baskets this year. _______ Spring Trip to International Poultry Expo in Atlanta, GA Congratulations to the club for receiving Club of the Year, 2nd Place Student of the Year and Scrapbook of the Year at the 2008 International Poultry Expo! Congratulations to the club and to Tammi Topper!
_______ Every fall the club sells fresh turkeys as a fundraiser. In 2007, the club processed fewer turkeys than usual and did not allow pre-ordering because of the timing of Thanksgiving Break. Even with the new adjustments, the turkeys sold out very quickly. "Thank you" to everyone who supported the club by buying a fresh turkey!

Another club picture with our hosts. _______ Meeting Speaker: Mr. Andy Herr from Rembrandt Enterprises, Inc. Mr. Herr is a 2007 graduate from PSU who works with a layer operation in Iowa. He was the 2006-2007 Vice President of the PS Poultry Science Club. _______ Five club members formed a team to compete in Ag Student Council's Ag Hill Olympics, a College of Agriculture-wide barnyard olympics. Each club team competes in events such as egg blowing, pumpkin seed spitting, and ice cream eating. The club hosted a turkey bowling event. We used regular bowling pins and a large frozen turkey as the bowling ball. The team was 5th place out of 14 teams. Way to go guys!

This year the club carried a banner in the 2007 Homecoming Parade. In this picture we are wearing our signature "chicken hats." _______ Held every fall the APG tailgate gives students an opportunity to meet APG members.
