The Penn State                                      Undergraduate Philosophy Club

The Penn State Undergraduate Philosophy Club seeks to support the practice of philosophy among the student body and others in the university community in a social environment. Anyone interested in philosophical questions and dialogue is welcome to join the club.

The Theme for this Semester: Philosophy and Film

The theme for this semester is Philosophy and Film. Most meetings will center on a topic that is tangentially related to this theme, such as Empathy or Dreams. Near the end of the semester, there will be a direct discussion of what film is and what has to offer to philosophy. We will end this process by putting our theories into practice and analyzing a particular film.

In addition, one meeting will be dedicated to reviewing submissions for Philthe, our undergraduate philosophy journal. Also, the officers of the club will be attending the graduate student conference at Villanova University in late March and the following meeting will be used to share what they learned with the rest of the club.

For all of the discussions, there will be suggested readings. These readings are very short, usually about five pages. Although reading them is optional, it is strongly recommended for they are intended to get you thinking about the topic prior to coming to the meeting so that you will be more ready to contribute.

The Philosophy Club meets Wednesdays at 6:00P.M. in 322 Hub, unless otherwise noted.
