The National Organization will award five (5) $5000 scholarships to full-time graduate students, thirty-three (33) $3,000 scholarships for full-time undergraduate students, and fifty plus (50+) $1,000 scholarships in the form
of undergraduate awards. The next national scholarship deadline is March 1. Please make sure to set up an appointment with our chapter advisor, Dick Pencek so that he can sign the bottom of your application. Applications without a chapter signature will not be accepted.

Phi Eta Sigma's local chapter currently offers four members scholarship of a value of $1,250 for their excellence in academic and philanthropic work at Penn State. The criteria for the scholarship evaluation is as follows:
+ GPA (3.3 or higher)
+ Official Transcript
+ Phi Eta Sigma Involvement
+ Personal Statement Essays (see application)
+ Letter of Recommendation
A point value is awarded to each so that each of the criteria are rated equally. The better the rating of the individual criteria (ex. a 4.0 GPA instead of a 3.6), the higher the point value awarded. The due date for this local scholarship is Friday, April 10, 2009, and applications should be dropped off at the Phi Eta Sigma desk in the HUB by 5PM. Please see

All Phi Eta Sigma members inducted prior to and including March 17, 2008 are encouraged to
apply no matter their class ranking. Seniors planning to attend graduate school
are welcome to apply.

2008 Scholarship Recipients
Sara Getz is from McMurray, Pa. and is a member of the Schreyer Honors College. She plans to graduate a semester early, in December 2008, with Bachelor of Science and Honors Biological Anthropology degrees. Sara was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma in the spring of 2005 as a Penn State freshman. The following year she was elected to the position of Activities Chair and received a $1250 local scholarship from the local PHE chapter. During this time she coordinated events with the Centre County SPCA, the Red Cross, the Second Mile, IM Sports, the United Way, and other service and volunteer organizations. The following year she served as President of the organization for the 2007-2008 academic year. She also served as the Vice-President of the Penn State Swing Dance Club during this time.
Krysta Lobb is from Bangor, Pa. She is currently a junior majoring in nutritional science. Over the past three years, she has served as the Treasurer and Vice President of Phi Eta Sigma. This organization has provided her with opportunities to become involved with blood drives, the Involvement Fair, the Shaver’s Creek Festival, the Second Mile, and induction ceremonies. Within Phi Eta Sigma, she is also involved with the THON committee and served as a 2008 THON Dancer. Outside of this organization, she is a member of the Blue & White Society and the Health & Human Development Honor Society.
Lindsey Earle is from Richboro, Pa. She is a junior majoring in supply chain and information systems. She served as Secretary for Phi Eta Sigma last semester and this semester she is a Co-Activities Chair. Her involvement in Phi Eta Sigma includes planning, coordinating, and participating in activities such as The Second Mile, Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center, IM Sports, and the Homecoming Parade. Her goals are to continue to use her time and efforts to help this organization grow in terms of member participation and involvement with the campus and community.
Krysty Prady is a junior majoring in biobehavioral health. She has been an active member of Phi Eta Sigma since her induction in the spring of 2007. During her sophomore year she served as PHE's Scholarship Chair and member of our THON committee. Her enthusiasm for THON encouraged her to serve as this year's Family Relations Chair. By the time she graduates, she hopes to build our THON committee to its fullest potential so that we can work together to conquer the physical and emotional effects of childhood cancer. She encourages every member to get involved in our committee and support the Four Diamond Families. FTK!
Lindsay Adams is a junior working towards a degree in marketing and minors in Spanish and international business. She has served as the Activities Chair for the past two years. She plans and organizes the exciting events like Second Mile, Homecoming, Blood Drives, PAWS, IM sports, and much more. This provides the opportunity for members to earn activity points while giving back to the Penn State community. Look out for future emails from her describing volunteer opportunities that can increase your chances of becoming a 2009 scholarship recipient! After graduation, Lindsay hopes to work in the health care industry, pursuing a career in pharmaceutical or medical device sales.
