Student Showcase - presented by The Noontime Concert Series, The Student Programing Association, and UPAC

This Friday, Oct. 9th from noon to 1pm the Noontime Concert Series will be having its first ever Student Showcase. The goal of this concert is to present to the student body - 4 of the best student musicians who have not gotten their names out in the public yet here at Penn State.
We will be having 4 performers who will all be playing for 15 minutes each. The performers will be announced on Thursday.
Please come and support your fellow students. Even if you are a musician at penn state who isnt playing, please come out and support your local music scene. Look at this as an opportunity for all psu musicians to come out, support each other and network.
Caleb Hawley will be performing Oct. 16th from noon to 1pm on the first floor of the HUB.

Caleb Hawley will be performing Oct. 16th from noon to 1pm on the first floor of the HUB. This is our 5th performance of the semester - and is sure to bring out a good crowd. Caleb is a guitarist from Brooklyn who has performing at universities and colleges all over the East Coast.
A little about the man...
Caleb Hawley has always wanted to be a professional baseball player. However, life did not grant him big muscles and outstanding eye contact. Instead, he was dealt the gift of fast fingers and massive vocal chords. After sadly realizing his circumstances, he set off to be a musician.
At 12, he learned his first Nirvana song on guitar. Due to the overwhelming response from the seventh-grade girls, he decided to learn more. First Metallica, next Pink Floyd. Then Dave Mathews or whatever else made people like him. Soon Caleb was the youngest bar hopper in Minneapolis, performing for “old people” all over the city.
A few years later, college came. He decided to head out to Boston and attend Berklee College of Music. He received a degree in jazz composition and was sent off to make a living in music, or in other words, die. He had to move fast, before his college loans got the better of him, so he re-located to New York City and in July of 2007, released his debut CD, “Greatest Hits”.
Since then he (along with his dog Fargo) has traveled miles upon miles performing at clubs, colleges, and festivals all over the country. In journey, he has had the opportunity to share the stage with the most famous of stars, though sadly due to crazy laws, we are not allowed to drop their names here on Myspace. In November 2008, he was a top five finalist in the annual New York Songwriter’s showcase. Things are moving along, though he still hopes to be a baseball player someday.

What our critics had to say about "Where On Earth"...
"...the album is a towering triumph of the indie pop variety. Album opener “Waves” only has three lines of verses before it segues into a sea of chiming, orchestral beauty. It’s the kind of song to listen to when busting open the doors to greet a warm, summer morning. One can almost visualize the Pixar scene unfolding as the trumpet wails, an acoustic guitar strums and a flourish of melodious grandeur ensues. Truth be told, of all the songs that have come across my desk so far this year, few have an album opener as triumphant or cheery as "Waves."
- Greg Robson, Absolutepunk.net
"The interplay between these other instruments-- particularly the trumpet-- and the acoustic guitar manages to recall artists like Jon Brion and Neutral Milk Hotel..."
-Joe Hemmerling, SuburbanHorror.com
"Melodically eccentric, yet musically adept, the record totes a unique brand of mellowed pop. Clocking in at a mere nineteen minutes, the six distinctive selections feature multi-layered orchestration, including well-placed trumpet lines, violin strokes, and twinkles on the glockenspiel. “Waves” and “The Gardener” are prime examples; both are enjoyable instrumentals, with the latter sonically fit for a Charlie Brown Christmas special. “Winter Blues” is the creative gem and album standout, baiting with its addictive horn hook and subtle “ooh-las."

As of yet, there's not a lot to really say about "The Makeup Call". We're just writing songs between ourselves and hoping to get them out of there for people to hear. That's all we're really looking forward to for now. Eventually a full band, but hopefully that will come along the adventure. Until then, it would be super if you checked out our songs and whatever else we end up putting up on here. Thanks for checking us out! -The MC
Wake up, Wake up, it’s time to Makeup
Okay, so maybe you know who we are and maybe you don't. So for starters, I'll introduce myself: Thomas Andrus Hopton. I play guitar and attempt to sing sometimes in this so called "band". Shaun Novak is the singer and second guitar player to this phone-calling frenzy we have going on here. We've been playing together for roughly 4-5 months now, and it's been a great time. The song we have posted, "Worst Case Scenario", was written and composed by us (obviously). You may be wondering how the hell there are drums there, so I'll inform you how this happened. We used loops from Apple and several other loop distributors, mixed and matched them here and there and even did a little bit of "musical typing" here and there for things we wanted to adjust ourselves. For the most part we're experimenting. We have not yet decided a genre or anything like that, we're just playing whatever we feel sounds good and moves us, and hopefully moves you too. – Wed.
