Meeting Updates:

General Meeting this Wednesday, October 26th at 5:00 PM in 107 Willard

Tonight is the Major Night for Engineering Science and Mechanics Majors in EES. Come out if you are unsure of your future major, want to look into engineering science or are interested in the Society of Engineering Science. Many of our officers and members will be present to talk to beofre and after this information session. There will also be pizza!

Welcome to the PSU Society of Engineering Science Webpage

The PSU Society of Engineering Science was recently reinstated as an "active" club at the University Park Campus (2009). We are the student organization associated with the Engineering Science Major. Engineering Science is the only engineering degree at Penn State that offers an honors eduation outside of the Schreyer Honors College.

Please check out the links on the left for a list of current officers, SES and Engineering Science department announcements and events, helpful links and other miscellaneous useful tidbits.

Our meetings are held every other Wednesday, at 5:00 PM in 107 Willard.

THON

This year SES raised an outstanding grand total of OVER $9,000 that went towards helping fight pediatric cancer. Congratulations to all SES members that stood out in the cold to raise money during canning weekends, and thank you very much to everyone who donated. FTK!

Rube Goldberg

The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest happens every year during the spring semester. This past year, SES competed for the second year and came in SECOND!

The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest was started to honor the late Rube Goldberg. As a cartoonist, engineer, and an inventor, Goldberg was best known for his cartoons depicting multitudes of steps that complete a simple task. This contest uses this idea: teams are asked to build a machine that will complete the simple, pre-determined task. The rules of this contest are to complete the simple task in at least 20 steps, but in under 2 minutes.

The task for the 2011 contest was to water a plant. SES constructed a machine that utilized uncomplicated machines like: the Archimedes' screw, Heron's Fountain, and Bernoulli's Principle, and Thompson's Coil. More information on SES's part in the competition can be found on the Engineering Science and Mechanics webpage.

Next year' task is to blow up and then pop a balloon. Information on the Rube Goldberg Contest can be found on the Rube Goldberg website.
