What The Penn State Outing Club Does

Each semester, PSOC staff members help organize dozens of trips. Trip ideas are generated by members of PSOC and represent what anyone wants to do as a club. If there is a strong desire for any number of members to go somewhere, or do something, it is announced either at meeting or over the ListServ.

Trips range from kayaking the Everglades to snowshoeing the Adirondacks, and from local day-trips to week-long expeditions thousands of miles away! Most trips are eligible to be sponsored with reimbursements for food, gas, and camping fees. The average trip, a weekend hike, costs around $20.

The Penn State Outing Club, as a club sport, also encourages its members to find and participate in various outdoor-related competitions. Competitions can be everything from adventure races, to bouldering competitions, to river races. The club also fronts half of your entrance fee for the competition, and all we ask of in return is that you share your awesome tales of adventure and triumph.

Outing Club, in addition to awesome trips, provides a knowledge resource for outdoor skills and leadership development as well as providing opportunities to meet people with similar interests. Our WILD program can help prepare individuals to lead trips for the club and also provide opportunities for members to develop outdoor leadership skills.

Simply put, the Penn State Outing Club is an awesome group of people doing awesome things in the awesome outdoors.
