Penn State Industry Scholarships

Scholarships

Eligibility

With the support of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA) and industry, a scholarship program has been established.

Penn State NAHB Student Chapter members who are interested in financial support are encouraged to apply for a scholarship. Consideration for scholarships will be given to Penn State students who are interested in and have a commitment to housing. Awards are open to, but not limited to, students who are enrolled in the Departments of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, and Civil & Environmental Engineering. Students applying for a scholarship must complete requirements below.

During the Fall Semester 2007, a total of $14,334 was awarded ($4,834 for competition team travel awards, two other travel awards totaling $1,500 and four scholarships totaling $8,000).  Support for these awards was provided by NAHB, the PBA, the Builders Association of Central Pennsylvania, Henrietta Hankin, Winchester Homes, and the National Housing Endowment. The Hankin Committee will vote on the scholarship submissions and winners will be announced at the NAHB Awards Banquet in November 2009 at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Requirements

All applicants applying for a SCHOLARSHIP must submit:

(1) a completed “Scholarship Application Form,”

(2) an “Unofficial Transcript” through Spring 2009,

(3) an “Academic Course Plan” (listing of courses you have taken during the past 2 years) from any institution

(4) a statement of “Career Objectives.”  The statement of “Career Objectives” should be typewritten (2 pages-max.) and should indicate how your objectives relate to the residential and light construction industry (i.e., family ties to the industry, desire to work for a residential development or engineering/surveying firm associated with the industry, desire to eventually manage one's own firm, etc.). The intention, of course, is to obtain some idea of your level of interest, commitment and knowledge of the housing business.  Decisions related to the Scholarships could also take financial need into account so, if you wish to, give some indication of need.

Submit application form to Rhonda Decker, 219 Sackett Building
