2012-13 Elections

On April 16th, 2012, the PSUMTA elected representatives for the 2012-13 Executive Board. Additionally, amendments to the Constitution were made. View the current PSUMT Constitution here

Congratulations to the following members on their positions:

The transition of power is effective May 1st, 2012. After appointed position (4) selections, the board member profiles will be updated online.

Spring Weekend Update - 1/31

This weekend, the Penn State Mock Trial Association sent teams to compete at invitationals at Cornell University (2) and Georgetown University (1). Results are as followed:

Next up for PSUMT are the AMTA-sanctioned Regional Tournaments, which will take place during the weekend of February 11th-12th. The "A" & "D" teams will be attending the Regional in Pittsburgh, PA, while the "B" & "C" teams will be attending the Regional in Buffalo, NY. Stay posted for Regionals results!

The Penn State Mock Trial Association (PSUMT) began its spring season this past weekend by traveling to invitationals in Swarthmore, PA and New York, NY. Results are as followed:

Weekend Update - 12/5

This past weekend, the final Penn State stacked teams ("B" + "D") competed at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, CT. This marked the end of our fall invitational season. Results are as followed*:

Yale Invitational (New Haven, CT)

Team "B" (pictured above)
Team Record: 8-4; 3rd Place - Top Division*
Individual Award(s): Noah Simmons, Attorney (23Δ*).

Team "D"
Team Record: 5-5-2; 7th Place - Lower Division*
Individual Award(s): Perri Atkinson, Witness (25π*).

* Note that every round has three scoring judges. Thus, every round was out of three (12 total ballots) and ranks were out of 30.

With the 3rd place finish from the "B" stacked team, that marks the sixth top finish (UMass 8th; Yale 3rd; Tufts 5th; Pitt 2nd; W&J 2nd; Colgate 4th) for the PSUMT organization this fall, its best in recent history. (See how PSU ranks compared to the rest of the country here.)

PSUMT's four AMTA teams will be selected this Friday. After that, the teams will begin preparing for the Regional Competitions in Buffalo, NY and Pittsburgh, PA.

As the end of the fall semester approaches, Penn State Mock Trial has began its process of selecting teams (4*) to represent the organization in the official American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) national intercollegiate competition this spring. This being said, the assignments, locations and dates for the first round of the national tournament have been released and are as followed:

Thanksgiving Break Update - Results

While most students were making the trip home for Thanksgiving break, Penn State Mock Trial sent three "stacked" teams to compete in invitationals. This being said, the "A" stacked team was sent to Pittsburgh University and the "C" and "E" teams were sent to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, respectively. Results are as followed:

*Denotes the highest finish for a PSMT at the Steel City Invitational in recent history. The "A" team's 2nd Place finish at Pitt is not only tied for the best finish by a PSMT team this fall, but it also marks the fourth "Top 5" finish for the organization (W&J, Colgate, Tufts).

The organization will attempt to continue this success in the final invitational of the fall season this forthcoming weekend at Yale University, where the "B" and "D" stacked teams will compete. Results will be posted for this tournament as they are made available. Additionally, since this tournament marks the last of the fall season, a cumulative results portfolio for the season will be compiled at its completion.

This past weekend, the Penn State Mock Trial Association concluded its unstacked invitational season with teams competing at American University (Washington, D.C.,) Tufts University (Boston, Massachusetts), and The University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA).

With the Tufts team finishing fifth, that is the third top five finish for Penn State teams this fall (Colgate, Washington&Jefferson).

*Denotes that this team won the Spirit of AMTA award at this competition. This means that they displayed the most sportsmanship of all teams at the tournament and have earned PSMT free registration for next year's invitational.
