************************************************************************************* Title: Generalizing a Binomial Coefficient Identity of Beckwith Abstract: In 2006, David Beckwith submitted a specific binomial coefficient identity to the Problems Section of the American Mathematical Monthly (problem #11220). Later that year, I had the privilege of proving the result combinatorially with Art Benjamin, Jenny Quinn, and Mark Shattuck. Along the way, our combinatorial proof allowed us to generalize Beckwith's identity in multiple directions. In this talk, I will share numerous proofs of Beckwith's identity along with some of our generalizations. The talk will be geared towards a general audience. Bring a calculator and some scratch paper so we can complete some calculations together!!! *************************************************************************************
