Hello from the Marine Science Society!

What would a University in the middle of Pennsylvania have to do with the ocean? Well, come and find out! The Pennsylvania State University's Marine Science Society is made up of members and officers that believe science is best when mixed with fun. We are always looking for new members to join. Although PSU is in the middle of the state there are still plenty of fun and interesting activities that have to do with the ocean here. When we cannot think of anything around here to do we take a trip. Like the trip that we will be on from April 24-26, 2009. As our club is vested in community service, the first couple of hours on Saturday the 25th, will be spent taking care and helping to clean-up the shores of New Jersey. After the work is over (is work possible on the beach?), we will be spending the rest of the day relaxing and playing. On Sunday the 26th, our club's members will be given a behind the scene tour of the Camden Adventure Aquarium. This amazing aquarium has a shark tank that is 550,000 gallons, with a 40 foot long tunnel right through it!

Last semester, instead of taking a long weekend trip, we spent the day on the Bald Eagle Lake. First we helped to collect things that were littered on the shore, then we went out on a 24 foot boat. This boat is used by a few departments here at Penn State for conducting scientific research. We were all able to get a first hand look and feel in deploying and recovering sampling equipment. After playing around on the lake for awhile we docked the boat and ate a nice BBQ dinner. Look for pictures and video of that day in the multimedia section of this site.
