Bringing Lutheran Penn State Alumni Together

Alumni Interest Group

We are in the midst of forming an Alumni Interest Group with the Penn State Alumni Association. An Alumni Interest Group is made up of alumni with common interests or activities. The Lutheran Alumni Interest Group grows out of the common bond among Penn State Alumni who are Lutheran or have been associated with Lutheran Campus Ministry. Possible activities could include networking luncheons, a newsletter, annual gatherings, regional gatherings, and more. Alumni Interest Group Board Members will make the decisions about activities for the AIG.

In order to continue the process of forming this group within the Alumni Association, we are gathering signatures for a membership petition. By filling out the form below, you are agreeing that forming this Alumni Interest Group is a good idea, asking to be on the mailing list, and perhaps volunteering for some furhter involvement. All information will be kept private.

Farewell to Luther House

and the University Lutheran

Center in State College

After decades of  student ministry, the buildings on South Garner Street in State College where Lutheran Campus Ministry at Penn State has held community meals, Jawbone Coffee House, Bible studies and discussions, meetings and where students have lived in intentional Christian community are being torn down.

Luther House and the University Lutheran Center have been places of real ministry and Christian community over the past 40 years, and students, alums, and friends of the ministry are sad to see them go.

On Saturday, July 15th, 2006 a brief Service of Farewell was held on the driveway between the two houses. It was a time for prayer, memories and a chance to visit the buildings one final time.

After asbestos removal was completed, materials from the houses were salvaged by Tri-County Habitat for Humanity and materials saved will be used in the construction of decent, affordable houses or sold to raise money for Habitat.

Please contact Alicia Anderson (ara2@psu.edu) if you would like to contribute stories or photos for a memory book honoring Luther House and the University Lutheran Center, please send them to Alicia Anderson at ara2@psu.edu or 211A Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, University Park, PA  16802.
