The Lutheran Student Community of Penn State is an intentionally safe place - open to all students - regardless of faith background, church denominational history, economic status, political affiliation, ancestry, color, national origin, race, sexual or gender orientation, disability or handicap, political persuasion, age, or academic standing.

About Lutheran Campus Ministry

Lutheran Student Community at Penn State is the official student organization connected with the Lutheran ministries in State College. LSC is directly connected with Lutheran Campus Ministry at Penn State, the campus ministry connected to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Lutheran Campus Ministry works with students of any faith tradition, bringing a Lutheran perspective to the campus community. We also work across denominational lines and other religious groups on campus and elsewhere. The Lutheran Student Community is a community of students who are involved with student ministry on campus as well as students from Grace Lutheran Church (a congregation of the ELCA) in downtown State College, and other churches in the area as well.

Worship is a central aspect of Lutheran Campus Ministry. You can participate in worship in a number of settings and a variety of ways. All of our worship services are open to the campus community and everyone is welcome to participate as a member of the gathered community. If you would like to participate in public leadership, you can read lessons, sing with the choir, play piano or another insturment, help host and welcome, or serve communion. You can also help in the "behind the scenes" leadership by setting up for worship (sacristan), baking communion bread, or helping with refreshments after worship.

A nurturing community life also characterizes Lutheran Campus Ministry. Some of the activities which bring us together include:

  • Home cooked dinners each week
  • Bible Studies
  • Discussion Groups
  • Retreats
  • Hayrides, movie nights, ice skating, picnics, and many other social events throughout the semester

Arising from our worship and our life together is a focus on service, welcoming, and outreach. These activities have included:

  • Ecumenical service trips to inner cities and places affected by disaster
  • Work with the State College Area Food Bank to help fight hunger
  • Habitat for Humanity Workdays
  • Singing and visiting with residents at The Oaks Retirement Community in Pleasant Gap
  • Spring Service Retreats

If you are interested in taking part in some or all of these activities, let us know! You can contact Lutheran Campus Ministry at lutheran@psu.edu.
