Events: Melissa Heydenreich 10k/5K Moxie-Thon
A Race Against Leukemia
Melissa Heydenreich was not only a
Penn State graduate, but also a State College resident. She was a diehard Penn State fan, an avid runner, a University Scholar, Lion Ambassador, Renaissance Scholar, and a member of Parmi Nous Honor Society. These accomplishments reflect not only Melissa's outgoing personality, but also her love and commitment to Penn State.
In August 1996, just nine years after
her graduation from Penn State,
Melissa was diagnosed with acute
lymphocytic leukemia. She died on
New Year's Day, 1997.
Moxie-thon, organized by Penn State's Lion Ambassadors and sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association, was the idea of the Heydenreich family. It is the most appropriate tribute to Melissa's life because it incorporates so many of the things she loved. A 5k/10k campus run/walk on a beautiful morning honors Melissa, while perpetuating her memory through charity. All proceeds from the race go to the Leukemia Lymphoma society.
The 2009 Melissa Heydenreich 10k/5K Moxie-Thon was a total success! Thanks to everyone's participation, over $9,000 was raised for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society! To view results of the race, please click the link below. Again, thanks to everyone, and we'll see you back for 2010!
