Events: Be a Part From the Start

Be a Part from the Start is an event to welcome our newest class of Penn Staters. Approximately 7,000 freshmen attend the event in Rec Hall, along with cheerleaders, the Nittany Lion, the Blue Band and the Dance Team. The freshmen watch a Penn State pride slide show and learn Penn State cheers and songs. This event is an all-inclusive, comprehensive look at what it means to be a Penn State student. Traditionally, Lion Ambassadors sponsor and organize this event for incoming freshmen to give them an early start in understanding the community of which they have chosen to join. From the fight songs and the Alma Mater, to football cheers and how to do the wave, Be a Part from the Start is an hour of non-stop spirit and an early lesson in Penn State pride. Following the Pep Rally, there are several activities offered to students such as a dance party in the parking lot (with music provided either by a DJ or bands), free food, and various other activities sponsored by other campus organizations (movies, etc.). 2005 marked the first year Be a Part from the Start was held in the Bryce Jordan Center to a record breaking freshmen class.
