What is Life House?
LIFE is an acronym that stands for Living In a Free Environment. It is a Special Living Option at the Pennsylvania State University (University Park). People who live in the house agree to the terms in the house constitution which they sign upon entering.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
LIFE South offers an alternative living option which provides a drug and alcohol-free environment. Members pledge that they will not use or be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs (including tobacco) within the House. The mission of this living option is to have programs and activities that are alcohol-free and to give students an environment and community to live in without the presence of alcohol or drugs that may make them feel unsafe or uncomfortable within their community. Students who are not living in the Residence Halls are welcome to any of the LIFE House-South events and encouraged to take part as another substance free activity on campus.
WHO LIVES IN LIFE HOUSE?
All kinds of people! LIFE House is a very diverse community and houses people in majors from education to engineering and chemistry to communication. In LIFE House, we come from many backgrounds with various life-long goals, but the one thing we have in common is the choice to live our lives free of controlled substances.
WHERE IS LIFE HOUSE?
LIFE House is located in Ewing Hall in South Halls and also in Tener Hall in East Halls. This page is operated by the members of LIFE House South. The two houses are run separately as far as activities go, but our goals remain the same. In the coming future, we will be working more collaboratively with LIFE East, which will include the hosting of larger activities. Most people first join LIFE House in Tener Hall and move to Ewing Hall for their sophomore or junior years and oftentimes remain until they graduate.
