The Nittany Lions recently wrapped up an undefeated fall season. Two early wins over Bucknell and Rutgers gave the team lots of momentum going into the annual Fall Brawl tournament, held at the University of Maryland. Hard fought wins against Towson and Salisbury saw the Lions back in the title game facing off against James Madison. The final ended with a 7-3 victory and Penn State lifting the trophy once again.
Penn State opened the season on a 7 game winning streak that ended with a win at the Beltway Bash at the University of Maryland. The Lions dropped both games the following weekend to a tough Navy team and Lenape Lacrosse Club. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way as they won the rest of their games. They defeated Cincinnati in the first round 11-4, moved on to Towson in the Elite8 and were victorious by a score of 10-7 in a hard fought game. The Lions cruised in the semi-finals to a 23-10 victory over Cortland State to set up a rematch with Navy in the final.
National Championship game:
The championship game was a hard fought game. Penn State went up by early by a couple of goals and never looked back. The Lions were led by Junior attackman Luke Thompson who had 9 goals on his way to being named tournament MVP. The Lions were able to repeat after being crowned champs in 2013. This was the 6th national championship for the program.
Penn State lost just 1 game in the fall season to a tough Cornell team. The team worked hard all season and was able to come home with another championship trophy from the Fall Brawl, their second in a row.
After opening up the season strong at 4-0, the team dropped two games at the Beltway Bash to Rutgers and Maryland. At 6-2, the team traveled to Towson for their final regular season game. Coming away with a 10-6 win, the Lions never looked back and rolled through the playoffs. In the first round Penn State handled Albany 20-2, and moved on to the University of Maryland for the Elite 8. An overtime thriller against Virginia ended 13-12 with the Lions victorious. Penn State beat Maryland in a stormy semi-final game to set the stage for a National Championship game against Salisbury.
