What is Rush
Usually held during the first three weeks of a semester, rush is an opportunity for women who are interested in joining the sorority to participate in various events organized by the sorority. It is a time to meet current sisters and to get an idea of what the chapter is like. Rush provides an chance to make an informed decision about whether or not joining a sorority is right for you.

What obligations are there during rush?
All rush events are free and open to the public. There are no obligations on when you do decide to rush. To be considered for an interview, all rushees are strongly encouraged to attend one informational meeting and two additional rush events to learn more about the sorority and the sisters.

Do you have to be Asian to join?
Absolutely not. aKDPhi is an Asian-American Interest Sorority and we welcome all interested young women to come out and meet the sisters. We are sorority composed of very diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. We are proud of that fact.

Why alpha Kappa Delta Phi at Penn State?
alpha Kappa Delta Phi today has 43 Chapters across the Nation, being the Largest Asian-interest sorority with over thousands of sisters. aKDPhi offers many opportunities for leadership and growth both in the sorority as well as on campus. Being at Penn State for more than a decade, we have crossed over one hundred sisters with very strong alumnae support.
Our members belong to many other organizations on campus with high leadership roles. Being at Penn State for more than 12 years, we were one of the founders of Multicultural Greek Council and Asian-Pacific American Coalition. Since then, many of our sisters have held executive board positions in both.
We are involved in several community service events throughout the year including volunteering at nursing homes, dedicating hours for blood drives and sorting clothes and food for the local community. Our National Philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness and all the proceeds we collect are donated to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. We have an annual Think Pink Charity Ball every year dedicated to raising Breast Cancer Awareness.
We build deep relationships with our sisters that last forever. Being in a sorority means always having someone to rely on and having a home away from home.
Ultimately, everyone has a different reason to join the sorority. Rushing gives you the opportunity to find yours.

Rush is over, and now what?
Once the rush schedule is over, there is an interview process, and the bidding process begins. Once the bids have been accepted, a rushee becomes a pledge of alpha Kappa Delta Phi.

What is Pledging?
Pledging is a time when pledges of alpha Kappa Delta Phi will learn about the traditions and history of the sorority, as well as build the bonds of sisterhood. Pledge is a period where the best memories and friendships are made.
