THON is a 48-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping fundraising event that benefits the four diamonds fund, with efforts of conquering childhood cancer. THON occurs every year in mid february and is the culmination of months of hard work and fundraising. the four diamonds fund provides comprehensive care and monetary support for pediatric cancer patients and their families at the hershey medical center in hershey, pa. in addition the money that is raised for THON serves to foster innovative pediatric cancer research initiatives. the penn state ifc/panhellenic dance marathon is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, and since 1973 has raised over $33 million for kids with cancer.
alpha tau omega participates in THON with the sisters of the zeta tau alpha sorority. our trips consist of door to door pledging in hometown neighborhoods, as well as canning weekends. these weekend THON road trips consist of working hard by raising money during the day and then hanging out and enjoying some R&R at night.
last year alpha tau omega and zeta tau alpha were crowned the top money raisers, raising an astonishing $216,971.05. this was the eighth year in a row our organizations have been named to this honor.
