Girl Scout Workshop

the Spring 2012 Girl Scout Workshop
9 am-3 pm, Saturday, April 14th
Park Forest Middle School (in State College)

Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) is excited to partner with the Eberly College of Science Outreach Office to hold in conjunction with Exploration Day 2012. For more information about Exploration Day 2012, please visit http://explorationday.psu.edu/index.html.

Due to changes to the Girl Scout badge system, the Girl Scout Workshop will focus on activities from several different badges. We will be conducting activities with the girls as well as pulling resources from the exhibitors and trying to tie in exhibitor demonstrations to our activities.

We will be mainly focusing on the following three badges (links will download scanned copies of the badges to your computer):

Cadettes (6-8 grade) - Special Agent

Seniors (10-11 grade) - Sky

Ambassadors (11-12 grade) - Public Policy

We will also be trying to incorporate art badges to help the girls see how they can communicate the science they learn in interesting ways.

The initial planning meeting for those interested in being activity leaders will be Tuesday, March 13th at 9 am in 111 HUB. Please look through the badges, focusing on the science activities, and come with ideas. If you are interested in being an activity leader but cannot attend this meeting, please email Beth Essinger-Hileman (ere123 at psu dot edu) with your interest and any ideas you may have.
