General Assembly of the GSA

All graduate students are eligible to attend Assembly meetings, whether they wish to comment on their view point about a particular issue or just if they have an interest in graduate student affairs. The Assembly meets in 102 Kern Building on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm. Meetings are normally held every other week during the regular academic year and about once a month during the summer. Contact the GSA office for the current schedule.

All graduate programs may have up to three delegates as representatives in the Graduate Student Association. Individuals may register as delegates by completing a GSA Delegate Information Form (attached at the end).
Role of a GSA Delegate
•  Delegates serve as liaisons between their program and the Graduate Student Association. This means that the delegates are expected to communicate concerns of other graduate student in their program to GSA and share information collected from GSA Assembly Meetings and other activities with their respective graduate program. The delegates may also be asked to vote on issues, which require consensus.

•  Delegates attend general assembly meetings, the dates for which are announced in advance.

•  Delegates serve on one or more GSA committees, which are formed to address different issues and co-ordinate activities for the graduate student community at Penn State University.

•  If a delegate is unable to represent his department/program due to any conflict, the delegate must notify the GSA. The delegate may suggest a substitute from his/her program.

If your program does not have up to three delegates, you may wish to bring it to the attention of fellow students in the program. Let us together make an effort to address the concerns/problems of graduate students and make the experience of Grad School a memorable one.
How to become a delegate
Departments and programs may choose up to three representatives, all of whom are required to serve on one GSA committee. Students interested in being a delegate to the GSA Assembly should check to see if their department or program holds regular elections for these positions. If the department does not hold elections, a note written to the department head expressing interest in serving on the Assembly should suffice. If no delegate has been chosen by October 1, students may elect themselves as a representative from their department to the Assembly. Official delegates to the Assembly must complete an official delegate information form, available at the GSA office or at Assembly meetings in the fall semester.
