Part of GlobeMed Penn State’s mission is to encourage the development of socially responsible dynamic leaders. One of our most recent training efforts is the creation of a class that teaches responsible engagement and how those principles can be put to use in the context of Project Honduras. The class is a student let effort that covers many aspects of Honduras culture, society, and current events. This background provides students with a deep understanding of Honduran culture and its troubles, and the necessity for responsible volunteering.
Annual visits to Honduras are made by GlobeMed Penn State students to assess and strengthen our relationship with CURE Honduras. These on-site visits serve to allow us to further coordinate with our local partner. In the process, chapter members better understand local culture, resources, and needs and serve as a supplement to community assets. Through this approach, students can use their energy and skills to support local health organizations with critical resources that improve lives and transform communities.
