The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the nation's leading scientific and educational professional forestry organization in the United States.  SAF was founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot.  In 2000, the Society of American Foresters celebrated its 100th anniversary.  Currently, there are over 18,000 members, including public and private natural resource professionals, researchers, CEO's, administrators, educators, and students, working towards improving the health and productivity of our forests.  Joining SAF is an excellent way to explore the forestry profession, keep up with new advances, and find career opportunities through networking.

The Penn State University chapter of SAF is a student run organization.  We have bi-weekly meetings to discuss forestry issues and events, and host presentations from guest lecturers on forestry and forestry related topics.  Every year we send a group of students to the regional meetings and to the national convention to learn about current forestry topics and issues, compete in the quiz bowl, network, and have fun. If you are intrested in joining the Penn State student chapter of SAF please contact Ben Gamble for more information and upcoming meeting dates.
